Tiles and international day? Is it a joke? No!
The Czech artists under the leadership of Archtiles Company and traditional paving and cladding producers from France and Italy really mean that. The first International Tiles Day takes place on May 21st, 2015 and it sets a task to remind the public that ceramic paving and cladding count among materials used by mankind for many centuries.
On the occasion of reminding the importance of ceramic in the history of mankind, one of the Czech importers Archtiles Sompany is holding a competition for the prominent Czech artists, architects and designers. The goal is production of authorial range of samples manufactured just in factories of famous producers that are REFIN (IT), Inalco (ES), Normandy ceramics (FR) and MADE MANO (IT). The competitors present their designs in several categories and the results of their cooperation will be evaluated and subsequently displayed in the premises of Café JEDNA on the ground floor of the National Gallery in Prague from May 21st to 22nd.
Invitations to the competition were accepted by artists Ira Svobodová, Jakub Uksa (Obic), Pavel Tichoň (Ticho333) and Michal Škapa (Tron), artist Jiří Lauterkranc, architects Miloš Munzar, Jaroslav Wertig, Dagmar Štěpánková and Katarína Varsová and the legendary Czech street artist Jan Kaláb. The representatives of the Czech investors, producers, architects and media specialized in design and architecture will sit in the jury.
“I am glad to participate in organization of this event as it gives the opportunity to the Czech creators to design a collection for worldwide renowned producers”, says a sculptor Ondřej Oliva, one of the organizers of the event, and he adds: “ the ceramic paving is not only a surface covered by a carpet or a place where you stick a shopping list for the Sunday lunch. It is an inseparable element of a design of any interior and I am looking forward to decorating my own interior with the collection of some of the competition participants.”
“We organized the competition to show, that the ceramic paving and cladding is an original, natural material and when it is properly processed and used, it is as authentic as glass, stone or iron, even if modern technologies are used at present. Remember your childhood when you draw your first pictures on a tile in the kitchen or bathroom,” says Petr Kunt from Archtiles company. He hopes this competition will initiate series of new design collections with world potential.
